Subject: Report from Meeting with Director of Computing Science

Good evening Everyone,

During the last week of September I emailed you all asking for questions and suggestions that I along with a panel of undergraduates would bring to a meeting with the Director of Computing Science, Dr. Mohamed Hefeeda. This email is a my promised follow up to provide you a report.

Below is a link to a google sheet which contains all the questions and suggestions that were brought to the meeting and which the Director provided feedback on. The topics have been grouped by similar theme in the questions and suggestion, for example quality of education. In the rightmost column you will find summary notes of the Directors feedback. Not all topics were touched on during the meeting due to time limits however everything has been read by the Director.

Google sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XduMccsKDh590yaAgcCLNtEpDliMeY_WeSnlhJc-o6k/edit?usp=sharing

I encourage you all to carefully read through all the feedback.

This meeting between the CSSS President and representative will continue to happen once per semester for the foreseeable future and the linked google sheet will act as a record of all meetings. The google sheet will be updated for every time this meeting happens. I will continue to improve the process(es) for collecting the questions, suggestions, and feedback for the future meetings. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Best,

Hi all,

The Computing Science Student Society will be hosting a virtual hackathon on November 7th!

This hackathon will be similar to our annual "Mountain Madness" hackathons where we put the emphasis on learning and creativity, so don't worry about building something "useful" and focus on playing with whatever technology you think is cool!

Everyone is welcome to attend and has no restrictions on programming level, this event is a great opportunity to meet people and learn new skills.

The event is on Saturday November 7th from 9:30AM PST - 8:30PM PST. You will be able to work inteams up to 5, or work individually. There will be several prizes available, that will be split among the winning team members.

Please sign up as attending is free! Attending a hackathon is a great opportunity to make a cool project for your resume or learn what it's like to participate in a hackathon. Grab your tickets before they run out, and bug your friends to do it too!https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/fall-hack-2020-tickets-126678991273?aff=Email .

If you wish to find a group you can join the CSSS discord server and go to the #fall-hack-team-forming channel.
