It's that time of the year👏.
The CSSS Mountain Madness Organizing Committee 💻 have been hard at work with organizing this year's Mountain Madness hackathon and we are excited to say that registration for MM 2023 is now live🥳!
Q: What the heck is mountain madness!? 🤔
A: Mountain Madness is the annual hackathon organized by the SFU Computing Science Student Society and hosted on Burnaby Mountain ⛰️! The "Madness" part refers to the crazy and unique prizes we give to the maddest [computer] scientists at the event!
Q: What even is a hackathon, Idk how to hack things...
A: A hackathon is an event where teams of people come together to work on a shared project inspired by an event-provided theme. Mountain Madness will have ⏰24 hours of development time allotted, during which teams will start from scratch and try to make the
coolest thing they can before the time is up.
When: Feb. 18 (10am) to Feb.19 (afternoon)

We will be having our usual biweekly board games night (BGN) this Friday, January. 10! As usual, it will be from 5 PM to 8:30 PM in TASC1 9204. There will be dinner provided and a wide selection of board games for you to enjoy. Our board games
nights are open to all SFU students, so invite all your friends!

📝 CS Excellence In Teaching Awards
|
|
Every had that one amazing prof and want their greatness to be awarded for? This award considers teaching activities in the two most recent academic years (2021-2022) and goes to professors who have went above and beyond in their teaching. A faculty
member may receive this award only once in any five-year period. *The previous winners during that period are: Brian Fraser, Igor Shinkar, Angelica Lim, and Gregory Baker.
📌Selection Criteria:
The Teaching Awards Committee will evaluate candidates using the following criteria:
• Quality of teaching, including the ability to clearly present complex information, the creation of an engaging and supportive environment, and student success.
• Exemplifies the six fundamental values of academic integrity: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage.
• Innovation of teaching, including updating course material, adoption of innovative teaching methods, and development of tools.
• Impact on the community, including leading teaching initiatives, delivering talks on teaching innovation, and contribution to outreach activities.

Submit nominations to csawards@sfu.ca with how the professor went above in >= 1 of the selection criterias above. Nominations are open until 📅 Feb.18! |

💼SFU Mini BIG Fair back in-person

Looking to get more involved? SFU Career & Volunteer Services is offering their first in-person career fair since the pandemic! There will be >60 organizations participating this year, students and alumni from all faculties and programs will have the opportunity
to explore a wide variety of career, co-op, volunteer, and graduate program opportunities.

Each month, Major League Hacking (MLH) hosts a global hack week where you can learn new skills, build your portfolio, attend fun sessions and connect with other hackers in the MLH community!
