CSSS General Meeting - May 20th, 2023

Hi everyone,

The next general meeting for the CSSS will be held on Friday, May 19th, 2023.

Day: May 19th, 2023 
Time: 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm
Location: TASC 9204 + Discord (discord.gg/sfucsss) in #General-Meetings

The following is the Agenda:

- Ratification of Executives

- Approval of Minutes 

I have attached a copy of the meeting minutes from the last general meeting. Please take a look through it and comment if there is anything I should change 😊 

You are automatically a member of the CSSS if you are a declared CMPT Major, Minor, or Honours in any program of study offered at the undergraduate level by the School of Computing Science; or currently enrolled in any undergraduate course offered by the School of Computing Science; or are an Honorary Member of the Society.

Voting is restricted to Members only. 

Notes: This meeting will run in parallel with BGN

Hello CSSS members,


Just a reminder that there are a few more days to submit your application for the Computing Science Undergraduate Student Society Award for the Summer 2023 semester. Applications close on Monday, May 15th, so be sure that you set aside enough time to acquire a reference as well as compile your application package! Once again, in order to be eligible for the award, you must be enrolled in 9 or more units (or 6 units if registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning) and be in good academic standing (CGPA 2.0 or higher). Applications must include a resume, personal statement and reference letter. The application button will open on May 1st, 2023 and close on May 15th, 2023.

There are up to 5 awards of at least $3000.00 to be awarded.


How to apply:

  1. Make a resume outlining your involvement.
  2. Write a personal statement outlining your involvement.
  3. Procure a letter of reference from a community member who can verify the impact of your involvement at SFU.

I strongly recommend you start early for part #3 above.

Join the CSSS Tech Fair Committee!

Hi everyone,

 

The CSSS is running a Tech Fair in September 2023 and we want you to join our organizing committee! Tech Fair is a career fair that will be held at SFU where we invite companies to promote their software-related job openings.

 

You can sign up for the following roles:

  • Website manager: Create and maintain the web pages we use for Tech Fair including information for attendees, organizations (attendance packages); create a registration form for organizations
  • Marketing: Promote Tech Fair on CSSS social media; create and distribute posters on campus and in the community
  • Logistics: Arrange for the venue to be ready; secure equipment, food, and other things needed for the event to run; coordinate volunteers on the fair days.
  • Outreach: Contact companies about the Tech Fair and encourage them to attend.
  • Secretary: Take notes of committee meetings
  • Treasurer: Manage income and expenses; organize receipts; make things easier for the CSSS Treasurer
  • At-large: If you believe you can offer something to the committee beyond what we described above, let us know!

CSSS General Elections 2023-2024 Results

Greetings All,

The voting period for the CSSS General Election for the 2023-2024 term is now over and the results have been compiled.

Before getting to the results, I'd like to take a moment to thank 

President - Mitchell Gale
Vice President -  Justin Yan
Treasurer - Gabriel Stang
Director of Resources - Truman Bui
Director of Events - Oliver Xie
Director of Educational Events - Valerie Kistrina
Director of Communications - Johnson Luong
Director of Multi Media - Yolanda Lam
Director of Archives - Jared Murphy

 respectively for their hard work and dedication to their position.

There were 169 responses to the websurvey.

Your new President with 131 (77.5% approval) is Justin Yan.  There were 38 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Vice-President with 95 (56% approval) is  Valerie Kistrina.  Johnson Luong had 40 votes(24%), Gursahib Singh Badwal had 16 votes(9%), and there were 18 votes of no confidence

Your new Treasurer with 70 (41% approval) is Gabriel Stang. Joyce Zhang had 56 votes(33%) and there were 43 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Director of Resources with 132 (78% approval) is Sean Chan.  There were 37 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Director of Events with 131 (77% approval) is Patrick Peake.  There were 38 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Director of Educational Events with 143 (85% approval) is Micah Baker.  There were 26 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Assistant Director of Events with 78 (46% approval) is Arya Faghihy. Katie Sun had 56 votes(33%) and there were 35 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Director of Communications with 92 (55% approval) is Isabelle Kwan. Darrick Gunawan had 45 votes(27%) and there were 32 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Director of Multi Media with 127 (75% approval) is Yolanda Lam.  There were 42 votes of no confidence. 

Your new Director of Archives with 85 (50% approval) is Dina Zeng. Elvin Zukic had 42 votes(25%) and there were 42 votes of no confidence. 

Congratulations to the new executives of the CSSS!

A very big thank you to everyone who ran for a position, everyone who voted and all members of the CSSS who have helped me along the way.
