The next general meeting for the CSSS will be held on October 8th! 

Day: October 8th, 2021 
Time: 5 pm-6 pm 
Location: TASC 1-9204 + Online on the CSSS Discord in the #General_Meetings Voice Channel (https://discord.gg/sfucsss)

You are automatically a member of the CSSS if you are a declared CMPT Major, Minor, or Honours in any program of study offered at the undergraduate level by the School of Computing Science; or currently enrolled in any undergraduate course offered by the School of Computing Science; or are an Honorary Member of the Society.

Voting is restricted to Members only.

SFU Computing Science Hoodies

Hi All,


Welcome back to campus!


As we have done in the past, the Computing Science Student Society is selling SFU Computing Science hoodies. There is limited availability for each of the sizes/colours so if we run out or don't have your size in the colour you want, let us know so we can record your name and email to contact you if we decide to order additional hoodies.



Prices:

$60.00 for embroidered hoodies (Pink and black images attached)

$40.00 for printed hoodies


Location:

They will be sold this week in the Computing Science Student Society Common Room ASB 9802(next to the mail CSIL door in the ASB).

Times:

We can't guarantee hours of availability to purchase them this week, however Monday and Tuesday people should be there from 11:30AM - 3:30PM.

The easiest method of payment is cash or e-transfer. We will wait for confirmation of your payment before giving out the item. We also can acceptdebit or credit payments. 


Sizes:

We have sizes ranging from XS-XL.


Colours:

We have designs in blue, black and pink.

Welcome to the September CSSS newsletter!
Here we hope to inform our students of exciting opportunities and events, while cutting down on the sheer amount of emails sent for each individual event.

First CSSS General Meeting 

Our first general meeting is happening soon!

NOTE: We will be electing FIRST YEAR REPRESENTATIVES (2x) AND EXEC AT LARGE (2x)during the meetingWe recommend preparing a short speech of why you would like to run(you may run for both positions).


We know this time may not work for everyone, if you are unable to attend the meeting and wish to run for a position please email us atcsss-exec-current@sfu.cawith a speech and which position you are interested in running for. We will read your speech and express your interest in running for the position(s) during the meeting.
 
Q:
What is a General Meeting? 
A: General Meetings are how the Computing Science Student Society passing information along to the student body and motion money to be spent on items and events. By attending you will get to have a better understanding how we operate and have a say in how we run.

First Year Representative(s)

Exec at Large(s)

This position is from September 2021 - April 2022. This is a very exciting position, as a First Year Representative you will get to plan an event for other first year students in both the Fall and Spring semester of your first year. Some past events have been: Ice Skating, Movie Nights, LAN Parties, Board Games Nights and more!

The official responsibilities are:
- Share responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the CSSS and its resources.
- Ensure that issues and views pertaining to the members of the Society in their first year of Post-Secondary education are well represented within the Executive and Society as a whole.
- Sit on the Events Committee.
- Write a continuity report at the end of their term for the next executive member who will fill this position.
This position is from September 2021 - December 2021 This is a great opportunity to get involved with the CSSS to help out and learn about the Society as well as the School. The Executive at Larges get to help out in the CSSS Common Room, with events and other random stuff they want to.

The official responsibilities are:
- Share responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the CSSS and its resources.
- Be available to the other executives to assist them with tasks relating to the operations and activities of the CSSS.
- Write a continuity report at the end of their term for the next executive member who will fill this position.

First Board Games Night 

Craving for a board game? Wanting to meet new people or catch up with existing friends after the pandemic? Join us inTASC 1 9204 at 6.30pm on Friday, September 24th for our very first in-person board games night of the semester. Best of all, FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED!

SFU's Robot Soccer Club


SFU’s first Robot Soccer club aims to combine the excitement of soccer with the future of automated technology as we compete in RoboCup. Our team encourages students from all programs to come together and learn concepts that are not taught in class and get hands-on experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, and teamwork.

CSSS Board Games Night - Friday, September 24th 2021

Hello everyone,


To all who started their SFU careers before the pandemic, I would like to welcome everyone back to campus after 4 consecutive semesters of fully remote learning. To those who commenced their studies at SFU during the pandemic, I would like to welcome you all to campus for the first time. As classes have moved back to mostly in-person instruction, the Computing Science Student Society is pleased to resume in-person events on the Burnaby Campus.


On Friday, September 24th, starting at 6.30pm, join the CSSS in the firstBoard Games Night of the semester to conclude your long week. Attending this event is a good opportunity to catch back up with your peers after 18 long remote months, or for new students to come meet their fellow CSSS members. On top of that, food will be provided!


To recap, here are the details of the event again:

As always, this event is open to everyone, so invite your friends to the event!

The first Computing Science Student Society general meeting of Fall is happening soon!


What are general meetings for?
